  • Lower School Classroom Assistant

    The Woodlands Methodist School (TWMS), an outreach of The Woodlands United Methodist Church (The Woodlands UMC), is currently seeking candidates for a Classroom Assistant position in a self-contained Lower School classroom for the 2019-2020 school year. This position is responsible for supporting the lead classroom teacher.

    There are two schedules available either Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday. There is flexibility to work additional hours if desired up to a total of 29 hours per week. Required work hours are 8:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Each Classroom Assistant should have a minimum of two years of college credit
    • Three years of experience working with children is preferred
    • Applicants must have good academic skills, and an interest in learning about working with children
    • Willingness to work under the supervision of a professional teacher
    • Staff at TWMS must be committed Christians comfortable with sharing their faith with children and families
    • Meet all certification requirements; which include fingerprinting and an extensive background check

    JOB DUTIES:

    • The Classroom Assistant is responsible for supporting the classroom teacher with monitoring and instructing the children, preparing materials, maintaining the room, and upholding the Guiding Principles of the school
    • Assist the classroom teacher with assigned tasks, following daily plans that support TWMS Guiding Principles and school policy
    • Care for rooms, equipment and shared space, including cleaning the room each day
    • Meet school requirements for in-service training and professional growth in a timely manner
    • Assist with car line and other assigned school-wide duties
    • Attend annual school wide events
    • Cooperate with others who share the classroom, including school staff and other The Woodlands UMC ministries

    CLASSIFICATION:

    • Part-time/non-exempt; not to exceed 29 hours/week
    • Wage: $12/hour

  • Eagle Club Assistant

    The Woodlands Methodist School, an outreach of The Woodlands United Methodist Church, is currently seeking candidates to work part-time with our children (K-8th Grade) in our Eagle Club Before/After school care program for the 2019-2020 school year.

    Education and Experience:

    • High school graduate/college student preferred
    • An interest in working with children Kindergarten through 8th grade and a willingness to work under the supervision of the Eagle Club Program Coordinator
    • Must be a committed Christian comfortable sharing their faith with children and families

     

    JOB DUTIES:

    • Be available for a shift from 7:15 – 8:30 a.m. and/or 3:00 – 5:45 p.m. on any/all days, Monday – Friday. Days/schedules are flexible but dependability is critical.
    • Work with and supervise students participating in Eagle Club who will be engaging in art, recreation, games, playground activities, and self-directed homework.
    • Help with arrival and dismissal to Eagle Club, and ensure accurate student sign-in/sign-out records are maintained.
    • Follow daily plans in meeting with the school philosophy.
    • Cooperate with the Head of School and Eagle Club Coordinator in all Eagle Club activities.
    • Meet licensing and school requirements for in-service training and professional growth in a timely manner.
    • Cooperate with others who share the classroom, including school staff and other TWUMC ministries.

     

    CLASSIFICATION:

    • Part time/non-exempt; not to exceed 29 hours/week

  • Lower/Middle School Substitutes

    The Woodlands Methodist School is currently seeking candidates for substitute positions. Positions are available at the lower school and middle school. Candidates should specify whether they would prefer to substitute at the lower school or middle school. Substitutes help to provide the best possible learning environment for children while their teacher is not in the classroom. The experienced substitute will be knowledgeable about educational resources and dedicated to lifelong learning.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Each substitute must be a high school graduate; a bachelor’s degree is preferred
    • Teaching certification is a strong plus
    • Experience working with children is preferred
    • Excellent classroom management skills preferred
    • An interest in learning about working with children
    • Must be committed Christians comfortable sharing their faith with children and families
    • Must meet licensing requirements; which include fingerprinting and an extensive background check

    JOB DUTIES:

    • This position requires someone that is committed to the growth of students
    • Reliable to be in the classroom the entire time while the teacher is out
    • Easily build rapport with students, other teachers and parents
    • Be available to substitute a minimum of four times a month for staff, keeping school informed of availability
    • Follow daily plans in keeping with the school’s developmental philosophy
    • Work directly with children to meet individual needs
    • Cooperate with the Director(s) and other staff in those activities involving the whole program
    • Meet licensing and school requirements for in-service training and professional growth

  • Preschool Classroom Assistant - Spanish

    The Woodlands Methodist School – Preschool is currently seeking candidates for a Classroom Assistant position in the Spanish classroom for the 2019-2020 school year. This position is responsible for providing the best possible learning environment for children. Classroom Assistants must be able to meet all state licensing requirements as well as accreditation criteria. This is a position on Fridays only.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Each assistant should have a minimum of two years of college credit
    • Three years of experience working with children is preferred
    • Conversational Spanish is required; fluency in Spanish is preferred
    • Assistants must be committed Christians comfortable sharing their faith with children and families
    • Must meet licensing requirements; which includes fingerprinting and an extensive background check

    JOB DUTIES:

    • Support mission statement, guiding principles and school philosophy
    • Assist the classroom teachers in assigned tasks, following daily plans, working with children, preparing materials, cleaning the room, supervising on the playground, and in keeping with school philosophy
    • Arrive in time to have classroom ready and be prepared for students prior to devotion time each day
    • Be involved in learning appropriate classroom practices through modeling, continuing education and an awareness of accreditation and minimum standards
    • Assist with children in the classroom, in a large group, small groups or with individual students
    • Assist with infusing Spanish in the classroom, modeling and sharing the Spanish language with children in developmentally appropriate ways
    • Assist in caring for rooms, equipment and shared space
    • Cooperate with others who share the classroom, including school staff and Sunday School teachers
    • Meet licensing, accreditation and school requirements for in-service training and professional growth in a timely manner
    • Inform an administrator in cases of unreasonable behavior, parent complaints or other problems which should be handled by administration in the best interest of the school

  • Preschool Eaglet Club Assistant

    The Woodlands Methodist School – Preschool is currently seeking candidates for Preschool Eaglet Club Assistant positions for the 2019-2020 school year. Eaglet Club is optional extended care for enrolled students. Eaglet Club is available to preschool students before their school day from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. and after their school day until 3:00 p.m. This position is responsible for supervising children during Eaglet Club.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • High School graduate, some college preferred
    • An interest in working with young children and a willingness to work under the supervision of the Eaglet Club Coordinator
    • Must be a committed Christian comfortable sharing their faith with children and families

    JOB DUTIES:

    • Be available to work from 7:30 – 9:15 a.m. and/or 12:45 – 3:15 p.m.
    • Work with and supervise children participating in Eaglet Club who will be engaging in art, learning centers, snack, and playground activities
    • Supervise rest time during the afternoon session
    • Help with arrival and dismissal to and from Eaglet Club
    • Follow daily plans in meeting with the school philosophy
    • Collaborate with the Preschool Assistant Director, Eaglet Club Coordinator, and other staff in all Eaglet Club activities
    • Meet licensing and school requirements for in-service training and professional growth in a timely manner
    • Cooperate with others who share the classroom, including school staff and other ministries of The Woodlands UMC
