SCOPE

The Woodlands Methodist School (TWMS), an outreach of The Woodlands Methodist Church (TWMC), is currently seeking candidates for a Classroom Assistant position in a self-contained Elementary School classroom for the 2024-2025 school year. This position is responsible for supporting the lead classroom teacher.

There are two schedules available: either Monday-Wednesday-Friday (8:00 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.) or Tuesday- Thursday (8:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.). There is flexibility to work additional hours if desired up to a total of 29 hours per week.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Each Classroom Assistant should have a minimum of two years of college credit, along with a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Three years of experience working with children is preferred
  • Applicants must have good academic skills, and an interest in learning about working with children
  • Willingness to work under the supervision of a professional teacher
  • Staff at TWMS must be committed Christians comfortable with sharing their faith with children and families
  • Meet all certification requirements, which include fingerprinting and an extensive background check

JOB DUTIES

  • The Classroom Assistant is responsible for supporting the classroom teacher with monitoring and instructing the children, preparing materials, maintaining the room, and upholding the Guiding Principles of the school
  • Assist the classroom teacher with assigned tasks, following daily plans that support TWMS Guiding Principles and school policy
  • Care for rooms, equipment and shared space, including cleaning the room each day
  • Meet school requirements for in-service training and professional growth in a timely manner
  • Assist with car line and other assigned school-wide duties
  • Attend annual school wide events
  • Cooperate with others who share the classroom, including school staff and other TWMC ministries

SCOPE

FUNCTION

The Teacher is responsible for providing the best possible learning environment for children assigned to the class by supporting the Guiding Principles of the school.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Teacher reports to the Director of Elementary School, Head of School, and TWMC School Board.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education
  • Must hold a valid Texas teaching certification
  • Good communication skills
  • Committed Christian, comfortable sharing their faith with students and families
  • Must meet requirements, which include fingerprinting and an extensive background check

JOB DUTIES

Shall include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Create and maintain a classroom setting that meets national accreditation expectations.
  • Write and teach weekly lesson plans including skills and concepts based on the TEKS and supporting the Guiding Principles of TWMS.
  • Work directly with children to meet individual needs and provide differentiated instruction.
  • Plan with and clarify expectations for the assistant teachers and any support staff or volunteers who may be assigned to the class.
  • Keep individual records for each child as specified.
  • Send weekly communication to families.
  • Schedule parent conferences twice a year and be available for additional conferences as needed or requested.
  • Care for rooms and equipment. Report items needing repair or replacement and submit requests for additional equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Cooperate with other church ministries who share the room.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and weekly team meetings.
  • Meet school requirements for in-service training and professional growth in a timely manner.
  • Inform the Director of Elementary School or the Head of School in cases of unreasonable behavior, parent complaints, or other problems which should be handled by administration in the best interest of the school.
  • Assist the Director of Elementary School with selecting appropriate resources to support the overall school curriculum, including resources that support Christian Education.
  • Attend annual school wide events.
  • Assist with carline, and other school-wide duties as assigned.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

SUMMARY

The Woodlands Methodist School (TWMS) is an outreach of The Woodlands Methodist Church (TWMC). This position supports Elementary School students by leading students toward the goal of academic, spiritual, and social/emotional development. The position also serves the needs of TWMS students with diagnosed learning differences who need additional support through classroom accommodations. In this capacity, the Counselor works to create and implement Individual Plans (IPs) for these students in collaboration with teachers, administrators, and families. The Counselor supports and encourages classroom teachers in the use of best practices in accommodating students with learning differences and helps to link the parents of these students to outside resources for support and intervention. Additionally, the elementary counselor will assist with admissions testing for elementary students who are applying for admission to TWMS.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Provide communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution support to students
  • Provide support to elementary students by making scheduled classroom visits to teach skills related to social/emotional learning, leadership, organization, and goal setting.
  • Meet with small groups of students who need extra support with social/emotional skills or are having difficulty in life outside of school and need extra support due to a life or family situation.
  • Participate in conferences with teachers and parents, as requested/needed
  • Review educational evaluation paperwork from outside sources (psychologist or diagnostician) to determine the need for an Individual Plan (IP) to support individual student’s learning in the classroom
  • Draft Individual Plans (IP) and hold meetings with parents, teachers, and administrators to review and sign
  • Update each student’s Individual Plan yearly to account for growth and changes as students move through their school years
  • Serve as a resource for classroom teachers; providing training, support, information, resources, and observation, as needed
  • Serve as a resource for parents by connecting them with information about counseling and educational services available in the community and information about the educational evaluation process
  • Oversee protocol and scheduling for all outside therapists who serve students on the TWMS campus
  • Assist with elementary admissions testing and serve on the Elementary Admissions Committee
  • Meet school requirements for in-service training and professional growth in a timely manner
  • Attend annual school-wide events
  • Cooperate with others who share an interest in the well-being of the students, including school staff and other TWMC ministries and parents

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree in Education with a Master’s Degree in Counseling, required
  • Texas Certification as a School Counselor, required
  • Experience in student observation and development of written learning accommodations, preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching at the elementary level are required
  • Must be a committed Christian comfortable with sharing their faith with children and families

The Woodlands Methodist School is currently seeking candidates for substitute positions. The Woodlands Methodist School (TWMS) is a ministry of The Woodlands Methodist Church. Positions are available at the Elementary School as well as Middle School. Candidates should specify whether they would prefer to substitute at the Elementary School or Middle School. Substitutes help to provide the best possible learning environment for children while their teacher is not in the classroom. The experienced substitute will be knowledgeable about educational resources and dedicated to lifelong learning.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Each substitute must be a high school graduate; a bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Teaching certification is a strong plus
  • Experience working with children is preferred

This position is accountable to Enrichment Facilitator as well as the Eagle Club Lead and Head of School.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Developing plans for student care based on assessment, interventions, and identification of outcomes, and the evaluation of care
  • Cares for students with chronic illnesses developing a health care plan with the physician and parents. Communicates and coordinates the needs of the student with the teachers
  • Provide care for students with acute illnesses and injuries
  • Monitoring immunizations, managing communicable diseases, and assessing the school environment to prevent injury and ensure safety
  • Overseeing infection control measures
  • Actively participating in school safety plans that address school violence, bullying, and emergencies that may occur at school
  • Overseeing medication administration, health care procedures, and the development of healthcare plans
  • Making decisions related to the delegation of healthcare tasks as directed by state laws and professional practice guidance
  • Providing health advice to school educational teams, such as the Counselor and Developmental Specialist teams in developing plans and IP’s for students.
  • Assists in maintaining first aid kits for each classroom
  • First responder for life threatening emergencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and current Texas Registered Nursing License
  • Minimum of two years of experience in Pediatric Health Care
  • Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification
  • Growing Christian
  • Must have a heart for working with children
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn new programs quickly
