  • Director of Athletics

    Are you an organized person who thrives in a position of leadership, enjoys sports, working with children and loves Jesus? If so the TMWS Director of Athletics position may be a good fit for you. We are looking to hire for the 2019-20 school year and need someone immediately.

    Function:

    The Director of Athletics is responsible for developing, directing and coordinating all school-wide athletic activities. This position sets the strategy for the TWMS Athletics Program. This will include coordination of all athletic events as well as managing the athletic department budgets for TWMS. This includes serving as a resource to students and faculty.

    Accountability:

    The Director of Athletics reports to Director of Curriculum & Middle School and is also accountable to the Head of School and The Woodlands UMC School Board.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    The following positions report to the Director of Athletics: all coaches and all athletic assistants who coach.

    The Director of Athletics also works in close coordination with the following positions concerning athletic policies and programs: Director of Middle School, Nurses, the School Business Office, and other ministries including Recreation Ministry and Facilities.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sports Management, Psychology, Physical Education or related field required; Master’s degree is preferred
    • Five years’ experience in coaching required, Middle School coaching is a plus
    • Teaching certification preferred
    • Athletic director experience preferred
    • Strong growing Christian who is comfortable sharing their faith with children and families
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills necessary
    • Management/supervisory experience is required
    • Must meet licensing requirements; which include fingerprinting and an extensive background check

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement athletic program for TWMS.
    • Develop TWMS Athletic Handbook and update as needed each year.
    • Organize middle school teams and schedules for each team.
    • Secure officials and workers for all home games.
    • Notify the administration, staff, and parents of team schedules and any change in practice or game schedules.
    • Recruit and supervise all coaches in TWMS Athletics Program.
    • Ensure all coaches follow TWMS guidelines and rules, as outlined in the TWMS Athletic Handbook.
    • Purchase and maintain an inventory of all athletic supplies and uniforms.
    • Oversee coaches to ensure that they are properly supervising all students participating in all athletic events, including practice.
    • Teaching any additional classes as needed.
    • Ensuring all coaches include times for prayer and Christian growth.
    • Organize and lead pep rallies and the athletic banquet.
    • Work with Recreation Ministries to coordinate Fellowship of Christian Athletes Club.
    • Attend and lead all athletic booster club meetings. assessment.
    • Approve training requests.
    • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior and serve as a role model for all faculty and students.
    • Meet school and church requirements for professional growth.
    • Oversee student management policies and processes including, TWMS Athletic Handbook, and parent/teacher communications.
    • Develop and manage the athletic school budget in compliance with TWUMC policies and accounting practices.
    • Interview, select, and supervise coaches.
    • Define expectations, assess, and manage performance of coaches.
    • Foster open communication, comradery, and team building among coaches.
    • Perform other duties as needed.

  • Lower School Lead Teacher

    The Woodlands Methodist School (TWMS), an outreach of The Woodlands United Methodist Church (The Woodlands UMC), is currently seeking candidates for a Lead Teacher position in a self-contained Lower School classroom for the 2019 - 2020 school year.

    FUNCTION:

    The Lead Teacher is responsible for providing the best possible learning environment for children assigned to the class by supporting the Guiding Principles of the school.

    ACCOUNTABILITY:

    The Lead Teacher reports to the Director of Lower School and is also accountable to the Grade Level Lead, Head of School and TWMS Advisory Board.

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or an appropriate major subject area
    • Must hold a current Texas teaching certification
    • Good communication skills
    • Committed Christian, comfortable sharing their faith with students and families

    JOB DUTIES:

    Shall include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Create and maintain a classroom setting that meets national accreditation expectations.
    • Write and teach weekly lesson plans including skills and concepts based on the TEKS and supporting the Guiding Principles of TWMS.
    • Work directly with children to meet individual needs and provide differentiated instruction.
    • Plan with and clarify expectations for the assistant teacher and any support staff or volunteer who may be assigned to the class.
    • Keep individual records for each child as specified.
    • Post weekly communication for families on the school website.
    • Schedule parent conferences twice a year, and be available for additional conferences as needed or requested.
    • Care for rooms and equipment. Report items needing repair or replacement and submit requests for additional equipment, materials and supplies.
    • Cooperate with other church ministries who share the room.
    • Attend monthly staff meetings and weekly team meetings.
    • Meet school requirements for in-service training and professional growth in a timely manner.
    • Inform the Director of Lower School or the Head of School in cases of unreasonable behavior, parent complaints, or other problems which should be handled by administration in the best interest of the school.
    • Assist the Director of Lower School with selecting appropriate resources to support the overall school curriculum, including resources that support Christian Education.
    • Attend annual school wide events.
    • Assist with carline, and other school-wide duties as assigned.
    • Perform any other duties as requested by the school administration.

    • Full time/Exempt; benefits eligible

  • Lower School Classroom Assistant

    The Woodlands Methodist School (TWMS), an outreach of The Woodlands United Methodist Church (The Woodlands UMC), is currently seeking candidates for a Classroom Assistant position in a self-contained Lower School classroom for the 2019-2020 school year. This position is responsible for supporting the lead classroom teacher.

    There are two schedules available either Monday-Wednesday-Friday or Tuesday-Thursday. There is flexibility to work additional hours if desired up to a total of 29 hours per week. Required work hours are 8:00 AM – 3:45 p.m.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Each Classroom Assistant should have a minimum of two years of college credit
    • Three years of experience working with children is preferred
    • Applicants must have good academic skills, and an interest in learning about working with children
    • Willingness to work under the supervision of a professional teacher
    • Staff at TWMS must be committed Christians comfortable with sharing their faith with children and families
    • Meet all certification requirements; which include fingerprinting and an extensive background check

    JOB DUTIES:

    • The Classroom Assistant is responsible for supporting the classroom teacher with monitoring and instructing the children, preparing materials, maintaining the room, and upholding the Guiding Principles of the school
    • Assist the classroom teacher with assigned tasks, following daily plans that support TWMS Guiding Principles and school policy
    • Care for rooms, equipment and shared space, including cleaning the room each day
    • Meet school requirements for in-service training and professional growth in a timely manner
    • Assist with car line and other assigned school-wide duties
    • Attend annual school wide events
    • Cooperate with others who share the classroom, including school staff and other The Woodlands UMC ministries

    CLASSIFICATION:

    • Part-time/non-exempt; not to exceed 29 hours/week
    • Wage: $12/hour
